Many people who write about weight loss, the methods used, and the lifestyle changes necessary, have never been overweight a day in their lives. This is not always a bad thing, as that sort of outsider perspective gives them an objective way of looking at things independent of personal experience.

I am not one of those people.

My name is Tim, and I have spent almost my entire life overweight or obese to some degree.  When I was at my heaviest, I weighed 477 pounds.  I was embarrassed to go out, eat in restaurants, or even to go to work.  I dreaded seeing small children because they always asked why I was so big, much to the horror of their parents and to my embarrassment.

I would love to tell you that one day I made a decision and never looked back, but the hard truth that more objective writers forget to mention is this – weight loss is hard.  In my life, I have slipped many times, lost and regained weight, and have even given up completely a few times, but you know what?  I always went back and tried again, and in doing so, I learned a great deal about diet, nutrition, fitness, and the science of weight loss.

To warn you, I am not:

  • a doctor
  • a dietician (anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, so that title is meaningless)
  • a physical trainer
  • perfect

However, I am:

  • someone who has struggled all his life with being overweight
  • determined to reach my own weight loss goals, despite any setbacks that come up
  • in many ways, just like you
  • caring about helping others, as well as myself, to lose weight and be healthy

Everything that is contained in these pages is the result of my own independent study, research, experience, and trial and error.  One of the most frustrating aspects of weight loss is that even though the basic principles behind it are simple, the reality is that it is much more difficult than it sounds.  I am not a doctor, and no website is an adequate replacement for proper medical care, but I will gladly share with you what I know.

I know that I will reach my goal someday, and I’m sure that you will too.
